1. Our commitment
Surrey GCSE Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people in our care. We believe that every child has the right to learn in a safe, supportive environment free from harm.
2. DBS checks
All Surrey GCSE Academy teachers and staff who have regular contact with students undergo enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks prior to commencing work with us. Records of DBS certificates are maintained securely and reviewed as required.
3. Designated Safeguarding Lead
Surrey GCSE Academy has a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) responsible for all safeguarding matters. The DSL’s contact details will be provided to enrolled families. The DSL will be confirmed and named in this policy before Surrey GCSE Academy launches.
4. Reporting concerns
If a member of staff, parent or student has a safeguarding concern about any child in our care, it should be reported to the Designated Safeguarding Lead immediately. Where there is an immediate risk of harm, the appropriate emergency services should be contacted without delay.
All safeguarding concerns will be taken seriously, recorded and acted upon in accordance with statutory guidance.
5. Online safety
Surrey GCSE Academy is aware of the importance of online safety. Any online or remote teaching sessions will be conducted via approved, secure platforms. No personal contact between teachers and students outside of Surrey GCSE Academy-approved channels is permitted.
6. Photography and image use
Surrey GCSE Academy will not photograph or record images of students without explicit written consent from a parent or guardian. Where consent is given, images will only be used for the stated purpose.
7. Policy review
This safeguarding policy will be reviewed annually and updated in response to any changes in legislation or statutory guidance. The full policy will be available to all enrolled families.
