About Us

Built around one simple goal: better GCSE results.

Surrey GCSE Academy was founded to provide exactly the kind of tuition that makes a genuine difference — specialist teachers, small classes and a relentless focus on measurable progress. No generalists. No packed classrooms. Just focused, expert teaching.

Our approach

Three principles guide everything we do at Surrey GCSE Academy.

Subject Specialism

Every teacher at Surrey GCSE Academy is a specialist in their subject — not a generalist tutor. Our Maths teacher is a Maths teacher. Our English teacher is an English teacher. That depth of subject knowledge makes a meaningful difference to the quality of explanation and feedback students receive.

Small Groups

Classes are deliberately kept to a maximum of eight students. Small enough to feel like a tutorial, large enough to create a productive learning environment where students can hear different approaches and build confidence alongside peers working toward the same goals.

Measurable Progress

We build tracking, assessment and reporting into every programme. Parents receive regular written reports, and our upcoming portal will give real-time visibility of attendance, homework, assessment scores and predicted grades. Progress should be visible — not a guess.

Why Surrey GCSE Academy exists

Surrey GCSE Academy was founded because we believed the market for GCSE tuition was broken in a specific way: too many agencies match students with whoever happens to be available, regardless of specialism, experience or genuine subject depth. The result is lessons that feel generic, teachers who are stretched across subjects they don't truly know, and parents who can't easily see whether the money is working.

We set out to build something different. Every teacher we recruit is a specialist in their subject — someone who has taught it at secondary level, knows the examination specification inside out, and can explain the same concept four different ways until it lands. That's not a nice-to-have; it's the minimum standard.

The small-group model is deliberate too. One-to-one tutoring has its place, but it can be passive — the student sits and receives. A small group of eight creates productive challenge: students hear other approaches, are asked to explain their reasoning, and build the quiet confidence that comes from realising they're not the only one who found something hard.

Our commitment to transparency runs through everything. We report on what's actually happening, not what parents want to hear. If a student is falling behind in a particular topic, we say so early. If we think a target grade is unrealistic given the current timeline, we'll have that conversation. Honest feedback, delivered supportively, is more valuable than false reassurance.

What we stand for

These aren't aspirational statements — they're the commitments we hold ourselves to every week.

Academic Integrity

We teach students to understand, not just to pass. We set honest targets, give honest feedback and never overstate what tuition can achieve. Every claim we make about outcomes is grounded in evidence.

Parent Transparency

Parents should always know how their child is doing. We provide regular progress reports, maintain an open-door communication policy and are building a portal that gives parents real-time access to attendance, feedback and results.

Student Wellbeing

GCSE pressure is real. We take it seriously. Our teachers are trained to recognise signs of anxiety and exam stress, and our small group environment is deliberately designed to feel supportive rather than competitive. Every student's confidence matters as much as their grade.

Continuous Improvement

We review our teaching methods, resources and curriculum alignment regularly. Exam specifications change, and so does best practice. We stay current so that every lesson reflects the most up-to-date guidance from AQA, Edexcel and OCR.

Boards we cover

Your child's tuition is aligned to their specific exam board, not a generic GCSE curriculum.

AQA

The most widely used GCSE exam board in England. Our teachers are fully familiar with AQA specifications, mark schemes and question styles across Maths, English and Science.

Edexcel

Pearson Edexcel is our second primary board. Many of Surrey's schools use Edexcel for GCSE Maths and Science in particular, and our teaching is aligned to their specific papers.

OCR

We also support OCR across all three subjects. If your child's school uses OCR, our teachers will ensure lessons are aligned to that specification specifically.

Please note: Surrey GCSE Academy is an independent tuition provider. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by AQA, Edexcel or OCR.
